Instead of focusing on what it is I lack, I want to recognize what I have and consider how I could share it (material or other). Instead of asking, "What do I need?" I'll ask myself "What do I have to give?"
I've been having fun thinking of ways to raise money for people around the world who are in desperate situations. I know of several organizations who have great missions. I want my family to support them. I also want to consider all the people God has placed right around my family, and how He would use us to meet their needs...big or small. There are so many who need to know they are not forgotten!
I want to grow in generosity and be a good example to my children. In some ways, they have inspired me! They always want to give when they see others suffering or in need. As children, sometimes they need the help of adults to accomplish this.
I'm excited for this to be a family venture. We can each add our own personal talents and ideas. I think it will be so much fun, and also provide more opportunities for quality time together. And what better way of teaching my kids about giving and serving others, then practicing it with them. We can grow together.
There are a few reasons I decided to start this blog. I thought it would be neat to record our "adventures in giving". It's also a fun and practical way of spreading the word for fund raising purposes. Another reason is because I love sharing ideas that encourage others. You might come across a ministry that tugs at your heart. Perhaps you'll be lead to give to them, or even start a fundraiser of your own. You may want to do something we've done! If so, I'd love to hear about it.
"You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. 'For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.' And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others." ~2 Corinthians 9:7-11
